Kodansha Manga Award
There have been three incarnations of the Kodansha Manga Award over the years. It was originally founded by Kodansha (one of the larger Japanese publishers of all books, both prose and manga) as the Kodansha Children's Manga Award, one of three awards created in celebration of the publisher's 50th anniversary in 1960. (The other two were not related to comics.) It became the Children's Manga Category of the Kodansha Cultural Awards when that award was founded in celebration of the publisher's 60th anniversary in 1970. In 1977, it was split back out into its own award, forming the current incarnation.
The award is given annually around May by Kodansha for serialized work done in the previous year. Because it is a publisher's sponsored award, the results are heavily biased towards material published by Kodansha, though material from other publishers can and does occasionally win.
Where other nominees are known, the winners are marked in blue and with an asterisk. Otherwise,
all listings represent winners.

Seinen: Manga intended primarily for college-aged men roughly ages 18-25
Current categories:
- Children's category = Jidō bumon 児童部門
- Boys' category = Shōnen bumon 少年部門
- Girls' category = Shōjo bumon 少女部門
- General category = Ippan no bumon 一般部門
(Previously called Young Adult/General category = Seinen ippan no muke bumon 青年一般向け部門)
Notes:
- When English-language versions of the Japanese titles are known, those are given first, followed by a transliteration of the Japanese title. Transliterated Japanese titles are always in italics.
- The revised Hepburn transliteration system was used to create transliterations, even for titles that are themselves Japanese transliterations of English words. (For example, the Japanese title for Vagabond is transliterated as Bagabonto.)
- All names are given in the same order they would normally appear in English publishing (given name then family name).
- I speak no Japanese, so I have had to rely on third party reporting and translations for much of this information; however, the blame for any mistakes in interpretation, translation, and transliteration must lie on my shoulders.
